Keller Estate 2005 La Cruz Vineyard Chardonnay

KELLER ESTATE

“La Cruz Vineyard”
Sonoma Coast AVA
Sonoma County
2005

  • Visual: Medium yellow

  • Nose: I had to dig around a bit to get the aromas from this one. Once I did, I found a hint melon and toast with some mineral underpinnings.

  • Mouth: The mouth was a bit taught and acidic, but nicely smooth, with a touch of candied fruit flavors. There seams to be less oak here for sure, although the stats indicate otherwise! There’s also a slight taste of vanilla and “crème” in the finish.

  • Overall impression: This is a clean, well-made, balanced, good quality wine made in a less oaky and more mineral style, but to me seemed a little non-descript after the two previous strong personalities. Several tasters enjoyed finishing with this wine, however.

  • Stats: 10 months 30% new oak; 3100 cases; $30; My score: 89

I am one of the tasters who really enjoyed this wine. In particular I liked the subtlety of the oak and the crème in the mouth.
