Hot toddy

There is nothing good about having a dreadful cold and feeling like flu is about take its hold on you. Well, this drink perhaps is the only good thing about being sick, provided you have a loved one to make it for you.

My suggestion is that you print this recipe and paste to your fridge door, your spouse’s bedside table, your eldest child’s skateboard, anywhere you think a sympathetic hand will notice it.

Oh, and you don’t have to be ill to drink this. It makes a great late night beverage and guarantees a decent night sleep.

  • 1 thumb of fresh ginger
  • 1 Tbsp Honey
  • 2 shots of brandy
  • Lemon

  • Kettle
  • Mug

  1. Peel and slice the ginger and place in the mug.
  2. Pour over boiling water and leave to infuse for at least five minutes.
  3. Remove the ginger.
  4. Add the honey, the brandy and the a squeeze of lemon. Throw in a slice for good measure.

What you should know

You can keep your ginger in the freezer and grate it into your mug from frozen (no need to peel). You will need to strain in order to remove it from the water though.

I also take this with whisky.

A couple of tylenol work wonders with this just before bed time. It ensures a deep, restful sleep. In America, please consult your physician beforehand. No lawsuits for this Brit please!
